Overview

The project aims to provide a storytelling platform for children. The intention was to make them understand grammar, identify objects from daily life, and give them an outlet for their imagination. The approach adopted was that of constructivism. It implies that kids learn by doing things by themselves.

User Studies

A method of contextual enquiry was employed to conduct the user study. The enquiry aimed to generate insights about the type of visualizations used by the user group and the needs and problems faced while making strategic decisions. A semi-structured interview was conducted for different types of users.

Secondary Research and Brainstorming

User
  • Age Group 6-8 years
  • Traits of the user group
  • Incentives that work for kids
  • Issues faced by kids
Possible topics that can be taught

  • Outlet to imagination
Participatory design using Paper Prototypes Details:
  • Children made to perform activity based on a prototype.
  • Provide kids objects, locations and verbs to choose from.
  • Give them a board to arrange the cues and build a story.
  • Give them scope to share, edit, hear and visualize the stories.

Observations

Key Observations
  • They tended to choose real-life scenarios.
  • They did not know where to begin unless prompted.
  • Parents presence affected their choices.
Cues for further thought:
  • Would they make different choices in their parent’s absence?
  • Would they create different or more imaginative stories if they keep iterating till 3rd or 4th attempts?
